'Afrocentric Voices', Webcast of 'classical vocal music' of African Americans, launched Dec. 5

[Randye Jones, of Webcast Afrocentric Voices]

Dr. Dominique-René de Lerma, principal adviser of AfriClassical.com, has alerted us to the launch of Afrocentric Voices, a webcast operated by Randye Jones: “Afrocentric Voices, the first webcast station to focus exclusively on classical vocal music composed or performed by African Americans, launched on December 5, 2008. The Web-based station includes recordings by historic vocalists such as Marian Anderson, Paul Robeson, Leontyne Price and Roland Hayes and composers William Grant Still and Margaret Bonds, plus contemporary musicians from performers Kathleen Battle, Jessye Norman, and Denyce Graves to composers George Walker and Leslie Adams

“Randye Jones, who developed the station, stated that it was a natural next step in her research of these musicians. 'Afrocentric Voices has existed online as a research source for over a decade, but I've always wanted to find a way not only to share the biographies and other written resources I've discovered, but to be able to share the recordings of these great voices. This webcasting station makes available some of the rare 78s and LPs no longer available as well as some more current recordings.' The webcast can be reached at
