William Grant Still Festival Dec. 1-6, 2008 Commemorates 30th Anniversary of Still's Death

Mya Cooper, Community Liaison Coordinator for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, sends us this news: “The 2008 William Grant Still Music Festival, a collaboration between The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, and Wilberforce University, will take place December 1-6 2008. The Festival will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of William Grant Still, the first African American to write a major work for orchestra, conduct a major orchestra, and have an opera produced by a major opera company. Acclaimed soprano Adrienne Danrich will perform selections from Still’s 'Troubled Island', and pianist Dr. Everett N. Jones III will perform Kaintuck’ with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
