Symphony of the Americas, South Florida's award-winning orchestral ensemble will launch its 2008-09 season on Oct. 21 with pianist Walter Ponce. As part of the program, the symphony will present the fourth movement of
William Grant Still's "Afro-American Symphony," a musical interpretation of the art of Jonathan Green, featuring the Jubilee Dance Company. The special performance is part of the Cultural Foundation of Broward County's Jonathan Green Festival. The 8:15 p.m. concert will be in the Amaturo Theater and includes a post-concert reception. Artistic director James Brooks-Bruzzese will lead the international symphony.
The performance will also include selections from Chabrier's "Dance Slave," Lecuona's "Siboney," Tchaikovsky's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1," Granados' "Goyescas Intermezzo" and "A la Cubana: Marche Militaire" and the world premiere of Magallanes' "Sones Huapangos."
