Quintet of the Americas: “A Frog Went A-Courtin'” by William Grant Still June 5 in Queens

New York, NY – The Quintet of the Americas will give a special
Music for Spring concert on Thursday, June 5 at 6:45 PM at the Salvation Army Center of Jackson Heights, 86-07 35th Avenue, Jackson Heights, Queens. The concert is presented by Latin American Cultural Center of Queens and the Salvation Army Center of Jackson Heights.

The program will feature Roaring Fork, a woodwind quintet by the New York composer Eric Ewazen. This work was inspired by the Rocky Mountains near Aspen, Colorado. Photographs of the mountains will be projected during the piece and Mr. Ewazen will be present to speak about his work and meet the audience. The Quintet will also perform dances from Colombia, the country where the group was founded. Also on the program is Fiesta Latina, a five-movement work by Douglaston composer, James Cohn, based on Latin themes such as sambas and other dances. Rounding out the program will be “Goin’ Home” from by Anton Dvorak’s New World Symphony, an American folk song, A Frog Went A-Courtin’ by William Grant Still and a South African pennywhistle tune.
