Cellists Dominate 16th Annual Sphinx Competition

First Place Junior Division Laureate, cellist Lev Mamuya and First Place Senior Division Laureate, cellist Christine Lamprea featured above, during the 16th Annual Sphinx Competition.


The Finals Concert for the 16th Annual Sphinx Competition presented by the DTE Energy Foundation took place [Sunday] at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit, Michigan with the exciting Senior Division performances.  Cellist Christine Lamprea, from New England Conservatory, won First Place and will have the opportunity to be featured with Sphinx Soloist Program partners. 
Second Place went to violist Dana Kelly who also won the Audience Choice Award sponsored by Mercedes Benz Financial Services, and bassist Nicholas Villalobos won 3rd Place.

On Friday, 16 year-old cellist Lev Mamuya took First Place at the Junior Division Honors Concert at the Max M. Fisher Music Center, and will have the opportunity to be featured with Sphinx Soloist Program partners. Second Place went to cellist Sterling Elliott, 13, and Third Place to violinist Annelle Gregory, 17.

The Competition participants performed with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra through the week. The Sphinx Symphony Orchestra is comprised of professional musicians from around the country and performed under the direction of prominent conductor and cellist, Anthony Elliott.
