Alicia Hall Moran's New CD "Here Today" on Yes Records is acclaimed by critics; New York Times writes: "Few could pull this off"

Buzzing...
GIOVANNI RUSSONELLO • The New York Times
Few could pull this off, and hardly anyone would try.  But Alicia Hall Moran, an operatic mezzo-soprano, is irreverent and gutsy and well outside any box.  CRITICS PICK! READ IT!

MAURICE BERGER • Research Professor, University of Maryland
With exceptional virtuosity, Alicia Hall Moran melds--and transgresses--genres into performances that are at once breathtaking, powerful, and accomplished. Impeccable vocals. Extraordinary songs.

TYRAN GRILLO • All About Jazz
I may not know from which depth of her soul Alicia Hall Moran summoned Here Today, but I do know that it will negate any and every imposter who tries to take its place.  CRITICS PICK! READ IT!

HUEY COPELAND writes....
As ever in Hall Moran’s work, a range of musical styles, tones, and tempers are dynamically cross-wired and recombined.  Her inimitable operatically-trained voice--at turns sly and simmering, sophisticated and soulful--unites her expansive aesthetic vision and places black female being at the heart of the modern world.

Errollyn Wallen: As we leave another year and glide into the next I send you my warm good wishes.

OLD AND NEW

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As we leave another year and glide into the next I send you my warm good wishes.

2017 brought me a wide array of projects and travel to many new countries. I have worked with refugees, expats, exiles, immigrants — and those who have never left their place of birth. These first-hand experiences of so many different cultures and customs are already enriching the music I am composing.

Kelly Hall-Tompkins writes:

Wow- just wow.  I am truly speechless and honored.  Many thanks to Nevin Brown, who took the time to write to the New York Times to submit me for consideration as a "New Yorker of the Year," and many thanks to the New York Times for selecting me.  I am so grateful and share with you here the feature article that appeared in the New York Times online on December 27th.  The feature is primarily in recognition for the organization which I founded, Music Kitchen - Food for the Soul, to bring top classical music performances into homeless shelters.  That program is made possible by all of our committed donors and all of the amazing musicians who give of themselves so passionately.  Thank you so much for the congratulations that I have already received from so many of you on the article.  I respectfully ask that in honor of this momentous occasion, that you consider making a year-end donation to Music Kitchen HERE Thank you!
