Dr. Quintard Taylor: In 1803 Igbo slaves drowned captors and participated in mass suicide on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia

Igbo Mass Suicide that took place off the coast of Georgia in 1803.

Dr. Quintard Taylor writes:

Hi Folks:
On February 25, will hold its 10th anniversary celebration-fundraiser here in Seattle.  I want to take a moment to remind us of why both the celebration and the fundraiser are important.  I have attached a sheet called “ and the World” which shows the enormous reach of the website.  So far in 2016, it has reached at least 230 nations.  The sheet shows the top ten nations that have sent people to the website and the bottom ten nations.  So far about 15% of our visitors come from outside the United States. 

I also want to bring your attention to the current BP home page, (  There is a poignant drawing on that page depicting the little known Igbo Mass Suicide that took place off the coast of Georgia in 1803.  Click anywhere on the drawing and you will learn about that tragic event.
