Friends of Negro Spirituals is proud to announce the honorees who will receive The 2015 Negro Spirituals Heritage Keeper’s Award.

Tiearea Robinson, Negro Spirituals Scholar/Educator
– Nominated by Professor M. Keith Claybrook, Lecturer and Outreach Coordinator, Department of Africana Studies, California State University, Dominguez Hills, Carson, California


Shawnette Sulker, Vocal Performer/Actress
– Nominated by Susan Swerdlow, member, Friends of Negro Spirituals


Eugene F. Jones and The Echoes From Jordan, a late performer of Negro Spirituals and founder of The Echoes from Jordan, a disbanded Negro Spirituals singing ensemble that preserved Spirituals and paid for the college education of the then college age James Cook

– Nominated posthumously by Ivy Duncan, member, Friends of Negro Spirituals

Light Devoy Edwin Harris, the late founder of the University of Light and founder and director of The University of Light Jubilee Singers
– Nominated posthumously by Bob Dewhurst
