Sergio A. Mims sent us an email April 17, 2015:
Just got back from a Chicago Symphony Orchestra matinee concert of Shostakovitch 8th conducted by Semyon Bychkov. There was a french horn player who has the brief solo in the fourth movement that I had never seen before and who played it beautifully
And guess what? She's a black woman.
She wasn't listed in the program book. She could be a reserve player but I'm going to find out who she is and get back to you
Sergio wrote again April 23, 2015 and included three links on Nicole Cash:
So remember I told you that there was this young black female french horn player who played with the Chicago Symphony in the Shostakovitch 8th under Semyon Bychkov?
Well the CSO told me who she was and she is Nicole Cash with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
