Patrick D. McCoy writes:
Please see the recent interview with Washington, D. C. based composer Steven M. Allen about the upcoming performance of his opera "The Poet" based on the life of Paul Laurence Dunbar.  The performance will take place Friday, June 27 at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.  Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves joins the cast as Matilda Dunbar with baritone Gregory Watkins, soprano Lisa Edwards-Burrs and tenor Daniel Noone.

Comment by email:
Mezzo Soprano Denyce Graves has shared her international talent in at least three operas outside standard repertoire of note to me: Margaret Garner, Champion, and now The Poet. Each of these operas are specific to the African descent history. This is of note to me because MusicUNTOLD have been privileged to engage services of Ms. Graves and I don't think any other African American opera star who has performed in every major opera house in the world has made a similar contribution.  John Malveaux
