WQXR in New York reports that Anthony McGill, one of the most eloquent clarinetists of our day, will join the New York Philharmonic in September as principal.
If you heard McGill's sublime account of the Mozart concerto with the Baltimore Symphony a couple months ago, you know how fortunate the Philharmonic will be.
Meanwhile, classical fans around here can enjoy McGill's artistry on Sunday in a recital presented by Music in the Valley at St. John's Episcopal Church. He will be accompanied by Christopher Shih, winner of the 2011 Van Cliburn Amateur Piano Competition (and a gastroenterologist formerly based in Howard County).
