John Malveaux: San Diego Opera, Where Latonia Moore Performed 'Aida' in 2013, Announces Closing After 2014-2015 Season

Latonia Moore in Aida, San Diego Opera 2013

John Malveaux of www.MusicUNTOLD.com writes:

As a small presenter of orchestral and chamber music concerts with ambition to present small opera productions, a statement by the president of the San Diego Opera regarding the announcement of closing after 2014 season grabbed my attention.

"With upwards of 280 people working on a production and up to $19,000 for one lead singer per performance (because they are in demand worldwide). Add the cost of sets and costumes, and other support. Grand opera is no small undertaking."

Thanks
John Malveaux
