Leslie B. Dunner 'expressed optimism about future performances of TROUBLED ISLAND because it was rated Chicago's best classical music/opera moment of 2013.'

Leslie B. Dunner (Jonathan Mathias)

Leslie B. Dunner is American Opera Projects Conductor. On February 27, 2014, I attended a world premiere chamber version of HARRIET TUBMAN: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom. Charles Jarden is AOP General Manager. Charles introduced me to Leslie. When I read Leslie's bio to learn he recently conducted Chicago's South Shore Opera Company's production of William Grant Still's TROUBLED ISLAND, I mentioned knowing Judith Anne Still, daughter of William Grant Still. Leslie expressed optimism about future performances of TROUBLED ISLAND because it was rated Chicago's best classical music/opera moment of 2013.

AOP is a leading force bringing new, diverse, and important opera commissions to the stage.  Charles shared a forthcoming commission about baseball's Josh Gibson. See bio of Josh Gibson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Gibson
Thanks

There was a performances of p-v arias for the Mayor of New York before 1949, but the only real presentation of the opera occurred in 1949.  [Judith Anne Still, www.WilliamGrantStillMusic.com]
