Happy 80th Birthday George Shirley!

John Malveaux of forwards this message from Dr. Louise Toppin:

Dear Colleague,

George Shirley will be celebrating a milestone -his 80th birthday in April of 2014.  Two events are being planned in Michigan to honor this extraordinary artist, teacher and humanitarian.  At his request, I am sending you his letter and invitation for the event on April 12th.  In lieu of gifts, he requests your support for The George Shirley African American Art Song and Operatic Aria Competition for high school and undergraduate students.

If you are able, we hope you will purchase a ticket and join in the celebration on April 12th at The Charles Wright African American Museum in Detroit, Michigan.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
