South Shore Opera Company of Chicago, with Renee Baker as Guest Music Director, celebrates Black Composers February 23, 2013 at 6 PM

Free concert at South Shore Cultural Center  

Too-seldom heard opera excerpts, scenes and songs will introduce South Shore Opera’s fifth anniversary season. Enjoy lyrical and haunting music from operas of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Aldolphus Hailstork, instrumentals by William Grant Still, songs of Florence Price and Lena McLin, and perennial favorites sung by acclaimed artists Jonita Lattimore, Joelle Lamarre, Jeffrey Burish and Kirk Walker, under guest music director Renee Baker and accompanist Peter Slavin.  

This free, non-ticketed concert is funded through a grant by the Chicago Community Trust, and takes place at South Shore Cultural Center Saturday, February 23, at 6 p.m.
