Oakland Public Conservatory: 'Private lessons & exposure to the masters makes all the difference'

[Vinkya Hunter in private lesson with Steve Turre.]

Oakland Public Conservatory
Mr. Turre is professor of jazz trombone at the Julliard School of Music in New York City and plays in the Saturday Night Live Band. He is also a member of OPC's Advisory Board.  http://www.steveturre.com

Vinkya Hunter has been a student at OPC since 2010. She receives private lessons from trombone master, Steve Turre, when he is holding master classes at OPC. Fifteen-year-old Vinkya performs with OPC's pre-professional Frederick Douglass Youth Ensemble and attends Oakland School for the Arts.

"Growing up in the East Bay, music kept me out of a lot of trouble. OPC is providing an environment for young people to be involved in. It gives young people direction and discipline.

When I'm in Oakland, I try to go to OPC as much as possible. It's my pleasure to be able to come through to work with young trombonists like Vinkya. She's got music in her heart & soul and her rhythm is popping!

So join me in supporting OPC by making your donation now. It's a wonderful institution not only educationally and culturally, but for the community at large."

Happy New Year!
Steve Turre
