Pianist Althea Waites in Faculty Recital at California State University Long Beach 4 PM Sept. 23, 2012

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of interviewing pianist Althea Waites, http://AltheaWaites.com, whose 2003 CD Along The Western Shore is shown above.  Here are excerpts from an email message we received from her yesterday.  She discusses her participation in the 150th Anniversary Emancipation Proclamation Concert on Sept. 22, 2012.  Althea also provides the program for her recital Sept. 23, 2012 at California State University Long Beach:


"I hope that all is well with you and that you are enjoying the few remaining days of summer.  I'm sure you have been in touch with John Malveaux, the director of MusicUNTOLD, and his Emancipation Proclamation concert at the AT&T Theater in Los Angeles on 9/22.  I will be playing for George Shirley and Nokuthula Ngwenyama for the event."

Professor Waites is currently raising funds for studio completed forthcoming CD to include compositions by African American composers John W. Work, Duke Ellington, and Jeremiah Evans.
