Lenoir-Rhyne University: William Chapman Nyaho 'Piano Virtuoso to Perform at LRU'

Dr. William Chapman Nyaho (b. 1958) is an accomplished pianist of Ghanaian Heritage who is featured at AfriClassical.com. His performance website is http://www.nyaho.com/ and he has a Facebook Page. William Chapman Nyaho has recorded two CDs of solo piano music, and is also a member of the Nyaho/Garcia Duo, with pianist Susanna Garcia. The Duo has recorded Aaron Copland: Music for Two Pianos; Centaur CRC 2405 (1998). The Oxford University Press has published his 5-volume graded sheet music series Piano Music of Africa and the African Diaspora:

“The Lenoir-Rhyne University Concert Series continues the 2011-12 season with pianist, William Chapman Nyaho, on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the P.E. Monroe Auditorium on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

“Known for his extraordinarily eclectic sense of music, Nyaho presents his own interpretations of the classics. His performances introduce audiences around the world to the musical treasures of Africa and African diaspora composers. His love of music, expressed through an insightful technique, creates an exciting musical experience for all.

“Beyond performing, Nyaho will also teach a resources and repertoire class that takes participants through his graded books of music by African composers. This will be on Saturday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m in the Mauney Music Building Choral Room. Pianists and teachers alike will not want to miss this incredible learning experience. According to past participants, his great sensitivity has made classes, such as this, the highlights of his residencies.
