Tiffani Miles of Jade Media PR sends this press release about pianist Jade Simmons:

“After hosting the 13th Van Cliburn Piano Competition in 2009, the multi-talented Jade Simmons, one of the world's few and most accomplished African-American female concert pianists, has been selected to host The International Tchaikovsky Competition.”

“May 14, 2011 – After winning rave reviews for hosting the webcast for the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, innovative Pianist Jade Simmons is honored to bring her brand of style and substance to Russia. She has accepted the invitation to host the first of its kind webcast for the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg Russia, June 14th thru July 2nd, 2011. As with the Cliburn, award-winning producer Molly McBride of Sathya Productions will also produce the Tchaikovsky.

“The International Tchaikovsky Competition, first held more than 50 years ago, is not only a valuable asset of Russian musical culture, but is also one of the major events in the international music community. As the first-ever webcast host for the 13th Van Cliburn Piano Competition, Jade interviewed figures such as Van Cliburn, NPR's Fred Child and news giant Bob Schieffer. Serving as the English face of the Tchaikovsky webcast means that Jade will give commentary on the performances and daily updates of the happenings in all four competition sections (piano, violin, cello and voice), each hosted as well by Russian commentators. She will also be the daily host in the Violin division whose jury panel includes Anne Sophie Mutter and John Corigliano. Jade will conduct live interviews with important figures and host special on-demand segments throughout the 3 week-long competition.

“What makes Jade hosting the Tchaikovsky International Music Competition a big deal?

“OLD MEETS NEW. One of the world's most venerable music competitions will have as its host one of America's most innovative and versatile modern-day concert artists. The Tchaikovsky is a traditional treasure in the world of classical music, having launched the careers of the likes of pianist Van Cliburn and violinist Gidon Kremer. To have Jade Simmons, an advocate for emerging artists and one of the world's few and most accomplished African-American female concert pianists, serve as the 'English face' of the competition's first-ever webcast is a testament to their efforts to modernize and reach a larger international audience.

“ABOUT the Tchaikovsky Webcast: Viewership for the famous XIV Tchaikovsky Competition is expected to have over 1,000,000 viewers and between 200,000 and 300,000 viewers during the final round of the competition with live streamed rehearsals with orchestras, One-on-One meetings with competitors and conductors, On-Demand Interviews in Russian and English, Documentary Shorts about the competition and The Awards Ceremony live on June 30th, 2011.”
