'American Scenes' of William Grant Still Played by Community Band at University of Wisconsin-Parkside March 10

“SOMERS — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Music Department presents the Community Band and Wind Ensemble with trombone soloist and UW-Parkside student David Dvorak in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Student Center Ballroom on campus, 900 Wood Road. Mark Eichner conducts the concert featuring music by Clifton Williams, Gian Carlo Menotti and Vincente Moncho among others.

“In addition to the solo performance, the concert features the Community Band playing Menotti’s 'Excerpts from the Sebastian Ballet,' William Grant Still’s 'American Scenes,' a series of short vignettes from each region of the nation; and Robert Ward’s blues-influenced symphonic poem 'Night Fantasy.' [William Grant Still (1895-1978) is profiled at AfriClassical.com, where a complete Works List by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma is found.]
