Errollyn Wallen Performs at Music of Now Marathon at Symphony Space Feb. 21

Composer, pianist and vocalist Errollyn Wallen tells AfriClassical she will perform at the Music of Now Marathon at Symphony Space February 21 at the invitation of Laura Kaminsky.

Composers Now week officially kicks off on February 21, at Symphony Space, with the second annual Music of Now Marathon. The day will culminate with a special performance by Ensemble Pi in honor of composer Gunther Schuller’s 85th birthday. The Marathon will also feature the US debut of Ireland’s Fidelio Trio performing works by Charles Wuorinen and Evan Ziporyn, new songs from Errollyn Wallen, and a performance by the Cassatt Quartet, joined by Ursula Oppens. There will be visual musical collaboration in performances by oboist Matt Sullivan with artist Ken Cro-Ken, and jazz pianist Gustavo Casenave with live painting accompaniment by Vicky Barrangue. Composers including Joan Tower, Huang Ruo, Tania León, David Del Tredici and Amir ElSaffar, among others, will be present for performances of their piece, as well as for lively discussions led by Symphony Space Artistic Director Laura Kaminsky throughout the day.
