CutTime Simfonica at Christ Church Cranbrook
Tuesday, November 9 at 8 p.m.

Dear Friends:
Please save the date Tuesday November 9th at 8 p.m. for a fantastic celebration of classical music with the hottest new ensemble in town -- CutTime Simfonica! We'll be performing in the intimate space of Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills.

Experience the tremendous power and control of DSO principal musicians: violinists Geoff Applegate and Kim Kaloyanides Kennedy, cellist Robert deMaine, and violist Jim VanValkenburg, along with violist Caroline Coade and myself, bassist Rick Robinson. As a composer, I feel very fortunate to have such magnificent partners with whom to work!

Our program will open with Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla Overture followed by
a famous work for the piano, Beethoven's powerful Pathetique Sonata, which I have transcribed for strings. Next up is my Idyll for Solo English Horn and string quintet, inspired by Gustav Mahler's farewell to love, his ultra-Romantic Ninth Symphony, with Michigan Opera Theater oboist Sally Pituch as soloist.

Brilliant cellist Robert deMaine will deliver a mind-melting performance of J.S. Bach's famous Adagio from the Organ Toccata BWV 564 -- a tender classical lament. And you'll also hear my latest original compositions: Gitcha Groove On!, which draws fun connections between musical styles such as rock n' roll, blues and Latin, with that of Mozart, Wagner, Liszt and Bach -- as well as Mighty Love, my musical take on the story of two people who meet and fall in love, embarking on that great adventure.

Winning a Kresge Artist Fellowship this past summer meant a great deal to me. A Kresge professional development Retreat I attended recently has empowered me to take CutTime Productions to the next level. Stay tuned for our debut CD recording! I hope you will come and hear how CutTime Simfonica is making a refreshing difference in the classical music scene on November 9th. Many thanks! RICK
