As part of Corpus Christi’s Juneteenth celebrations, the Camerata del Sol Trio, featuring Evelyn McCarty on oboe, Dulane Aaberg on bassoon and Imelda Delgado on piano, will present chamber music and solo works by African American composer William Grant Still. Flutist Belen Palos-Tuley and other invited performers will also join the artists for a delightful evening of solo works and chamber music by American composers of color. Judith Anne Still, daughter of composer William Grant Still, will also attend this event. The Juneteenth Coalition in Corpus Christi and Del Mar College are sponsors of this event. For more information, call the DMC Music Office at 361-698-1215.”

We wrote to Evelyn McCarty, the oboist who is representing the Camerata Del Sol Trio, for program details. She replied: “While I do not have the complete listing yet of all the works to be performed, I can list for you the following ones by William Grant Still:
Vignettes (ob.bn.pn.)
Miniatures (fl.ob.pn.)
Incantation and Dance (ob. and pn.)
Romance (bn. and pn.)--plus a Group of songs by William Grant Still most likely chosen from and the album of Five Art Songs. (These will be sung by the young invited soprano, Dee Donasco. If Dee does not include 'If You Should Go' I will play it on oboe with piano.) In addition I hope that there will also be 'Summerland' (fl. and pn.) on the program.

“Works on the program by other composers are 'Faces of Jazz' (fl.pn.) by Hale Smith with flute part added by Matt Doran, and 3 spirituals--'Ride On, King Jesus', 'This Little Light of Mine' and 'He's Got the Whole World in his Hands' sung by Dee Donasco.” [William Grant Still (1895-1978) and Hale Smith (1925-2009) are profiled at AfriClassical.com, where complete Works Lists by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma are featured.]
